Marshall R. Winchell 83, a lifelong resident of Highland passed away at Vassar
Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on September 14, 2014.
Mr. Winchell was a Central Office Supervisor for New
York Telephone in Poughkeepsie up until his retirement in 1985.
He was an avid sailor. He enjoyed sailing his boat in
various areas. He also loved to read.
Mr. Winchell was a
United States Navy Veteran. He served during the
Korean War. His duty was submarine service during the
years 1948- 1953. He was honorably discharged.
He served on the Town of
Lloyd Planning Committee, he was Past President of the Highland Hose Company #1,
Life Member and Past Commander of the Mid Hudson Power Squadron, Past National
Officer and Rear Commander of the United States Power Squadrons, member of the
United States Submarine Veterans, Inc., member of the
VFW Post 8645 in New Paltz, member of the Storm King
Power Squadron and was a Trustee of the Highland Landing Part.
Mr.Winchell was born in Boston Mass on February 22,
1931. He was the son of Louis E. Winchell and Mary Annette Bacon.
On June 15, 1952 at St. Joseph's Church in Middletown
he married Patricia Long. Mrs. Winchell survives at home in Highland. Additional
survivors include his daughters; Barbara Klotz and her husband Richard of
Highland, Sandra Winchell of Highland, grandchildren; Kevin Klotz and his wife
Kelly, Marc Klotz and his fiancée Lisa Giangrasso, two great grandchildren; Dean
and Leah Klotz, two sister; Carol Lindberg of Florida, Gail Bourgeois and her
husband Paul of Florida, along with three sister in laws: Nancy Bonfanti, Mary
Bolduc, JoAnne Steinhardt and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A gathering for family and friends to pay their
respects will be held on Sunday September 21st from 1-5pm at the Michael Torsone
Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 38 Main St. Highland, NY 12528.
Burial will be private.
